What matters more is understanding where you stand right now — your current rate, how long you plan to stay in your home, and what refinancing would actually cost. Sometimes a modest rate improvement makes sense; sometimes it doesn't. The best time to explore your options is before you need to, when you can think clearly and compare possibilities without pressure. If you've been in your home for a while or your situation has changed, it might be worth a conversation.
