Refinancing: worth it for you?

Hi there. This week I want to tackle a question I hear often: should I refinance? The answer depends on your specific circumstances, not just what rates are doing.

Refinancing Strategy

When refinancing makes sense (and when it doesn't)

Refinancing isn't always the right move, even when rates drop or your situation changes. The real question isn't whether you can refinance—it's whether the benefit outweighs the costs and how long you plan to stay in your home. Some borrowers see lower monthly payments or escape an adjustable rate. Others are better off staying put. That's why I always recommend running the numbers first: How much will refinancing cost? How much will you save each month? How many months until you break even? Once you know those answers, the decision becomes clear. If you've been wondering whether now is the right time, I'd like to help you work through it—no pressure, just clarity.

Let's talk through whether refinancing makes sense for your situation.

Tip of the Week

If your credit score is below 740, even small improvements before applying for a mortgage can save you thousands over the life of the loan.

Tips for Homeowners

Weatherproofing Your Home Before Winter

1.

Clean your chimney if you have a fireplace. The National Fire Protection Association recommends annual inspection and cleaning to prevent chimney fires.

2.

Check attic insulation and ventilation before winter. Inadequate insulation leads to heat loss, higher energy bills, and ice dams on the roof that can cause significant damage.

3.

Inspect weatherstripping on all exterior doors. A simple dollar-bill test works: close the door on a bill — if you can pull it out easily, your weatherstripping needs replacing.
