Should you refinance? Here's how to tell.

I work with borrowers every week who wonder if refinancing is the right move. It's a smart question to ask.

Refinancing Basics

When refinancing makes sense for you

Refinancing isn't one-size-fits-all, but it's worth considering if your situation has changed since you got your loan. Maybe rates have moved meaningfully lower, or your credit score has improved, or you want to shorten your loan term. Some borrowers refinance to tap into home equity for a major expense. The key is understanding your break-even point — how long you'd need to stay in the home for the refinance to pay for itself. I always recommend running the numbers with someone who knows your full picture before deciding. If you're curious whether refinancing could work for you, let's talk through the specifics.

Reach out anytime if you'd like to explore whether a refi makes sense for your loan.

Tip of the Week

If your credit score is below 740, even small improvements before applying for a mortgage can save you thousands over the life of the loan.

Tips for Homeowners

Weatherproofing Your Home Before Winter

1.

Clean your chimney if you have a fireplace. The National Fire Protection Association recommends annual inspection and cleaning to prevent chimney fires.

2.

Check attic insulation and ventilation before winter. Inadequate insulation leads to heat loss, higher energy bills, and ice dams on the roof that can cause significant damage.

3.

Inspect weatherstripping on all exterior doors. A simple dollar-bill test works: close the door on a bill — if you can pull it out easily, your weatherstripping needs replacing.
