Should you refinance? Here's how to tell.

A lot of borrowers ask me about refinancing at some point—but the honest answer depends on your specific circumstances. This week, I want to walk through when it makes sense and when it might not.

Refinancing Basics

When refinancing actually makes sense

Refinancing isn't always the right move, and I think that's worth saying outright. Some borrowers benefit from lower rates or shorter loan terms. Others find the timing or costs don't quite line up. The key is understanding your own situation: how long you plan to stay in the home, what your current rate and loan terms are, and whether the potential savings justify any fees involved. If you've been curious about whether a refinance could work for you, I'm happy to run the numbers without any pressure. There's no one-size-fits-all answer, but we can find one that fits your goals.

Let me know if you'd like to explore what refinancing might look like for your loan.

Tip of the Week

If your credit score is below 740, even small improvements before applying for a mortgage can save you thousands over the life of the loan.

Tips for Homeowners

Weatherproofing Your Home Before Winter

1.

Clean your chimney if you have a fireplace. The National Fire Protection Association recommends annual inspection and cleaning to prevent chimney fires.

2.

Check attic insulation and ventilation before winter. Inadequate insulation leads to heat loss, higher energy bills, and ice dams on the roof that can cause significant damage.

3.

Inspect weatherstripping on all exterior doors. A simple dollar-bill test works: close the door on a bill — if you can pull it out easily, your weatherstripping needs replacing.
