Does refinancing make sense for you?

Hi there. This week I want to talk about a question I hear often: should I refinance? Let's walk through when it usually makes sense.

Refinancing Basics

When it makes sense to refinance your mortgage

Refinancing isn't always the right move, but it can be if your situation has changed. Maybe rates have shifted, your credit has improved, or you want to adjust your loan term. The key is understanding what you'd actually save—and what it costs to refinance—before you decide. Some borrowers benefit from a lower rate; others find that the closing costs don't pencil out. It depends on how long you plan to stay in your home and what you're trying to accomplish. If you're curious whether refinancing makes sense for you right now, I'd be happy to walk through your numbers and show you what the real picture looks like.

Tip of the Week

If your credit score is below 740, even small improvements before applying for a mortgage can save you thousands over the life of the loan.

Tips for Homeowners

Weatherproofing Your Home Before Winter

1.

Clean your chimney if you have a fireplace. The National Fire Protection Association recommends annual inspection and cleaning to prevent chimney fires.

2.

Check attic insulation and ventilation before winter. Inadequate insulation leads to heat loss, higher energy bills, and ice dams on the roof that can cause significant damage.

3.

Inspect weatherstripping on all exterior doors. A simple dollar-bill test works: close the door on a bill — if you can pull it out easily, your weatherstripping needs replacing.
