Does refinancing make sense right now?

I get a lot of questions about whether homeowners should refinance, and the answer usually depends on a few specific facts about your loan and plans.

Refinancing Basics

When refinancing actually makes sense

A lot of homeowners think about refinancing when rates drop, but timing isn't quite that simple. The real question is whether the monthly savings outweigh the costs of refinancing — and how long you plan to stay in your home. I've worked with plenty of borrowers who ran the numbers and found it made sense, and others who realized it didn't yet. Your specific situation matters: your current loan balance, how many years you've already paid, how long you're staying put. We can walk through what a refinance would actually cost you and what your new payment might look like, so you're not guessing. If you've been wondering whether now is the right time, let's talk through the details together.

Tip of the Week

If your credit score is below 740, even small improvements before applying for a mortgage can save you thousands over the life of the loan.

Tips for Homeowners

Weatherproofing Your Home Before Winter

1.

Clean your chimney if you have a fireplace. The National Fire Protection Association recommends annual inspection and cleaning to prevent chimney fires.

2.

Check attic insulation and ventilation before winter. Inadequate insulation leads to heat loss, higher energy bills, and ice dams on the roof that can cause significant damage.

3.

Inspect weatherstripping on all exterior doors. A simple dollar-bill test works: close the door on a bill — if you can pull it out easily, your weatherstripping needs replacing.
